Hi Friends, This has been long overdue but I think I am in a good place to begin this series. Travelling has never been something on my list. Even as kids, I would constantly say I loved it in my home country ‘Nigeria’ and wasn’t going anywhere. I never knew God had other plans.
I recalled making enquiries about Canada’s Permanent Residency and how you had to take the IELTS as part of the requirement. All of a sudden, I was intrigued and tried it. I also made an effort to persuade my husband to do the same, but he shared my perspective and wasn't thrilled about the prospect of living abroad. In any case, we both completed the IELTS and got started on the procedure, but we gave it up since we had a more important assignment that needed our full focus.
In 2021, we decided to relocate to the United Kingdom. At first, it was difficult because I was only starting to adjust to a new state and environment after resigning my 9 to 5 job, and now I had to relocate once more. I wasn't sure what it would look like over there, so I was rather nervous. I am well aware that I will have to start afresh. I had no desire to. I've heard a lot of frightening tales about foreigners. Even the prospect of the weather there was the most frightening. In any case, we began the application process and were anticipating a response.
When we got home, I noticed that my husband had already started looking for a ticket for me to travel the following day. It hit me hard to realise that I would soon be travelling alone to the UK, which made me very unhappy. It was unbelievable to me that I would be leaving everyone and everything I had ever known and travelling so far from home. I was supposed to be studying for a master's degree in the UK since September, but got a delayed decision outcome in October and needed to go as soon as I can to be able to do my registration and get settled quickly. I didn't care about it at the moment. But was more concerned about being so distant from my family which made me very uneasy.
To be continued…
Lots of love,
Linda.
